Final Reflection Paper

This is a common assignment required in all CWI 101 courses and used for program assessment. It is important for the prompt to remain consistent and for all instructors to use the common rubric for grading. Please do not remove or rename the grading rubric!

In the standard 16-week Q-course, the final reflection paper is assigned across three weeks:

  • Introduced in Week 14
  • Rough draft due in Week 15
  • Final draft due in Week 16

In the 8-week course, the paper is introduced and due in Week 8. Please reach out if you have questions or need assistance with implementing and/or grading this assignment.

The prompt and the Blackboard grading rubric for the final submission of this assignment are below.

CWI 101 Signature Assignment: Final Reflection Paper

This is a common assignment for all CWI 101 sections and will be used to assess the course. This week, you will submit your final draft.

STEP 1: For each section below, you will read the description of the CWI 101 Student Learning Outcome (SLO), then respond to the related questions in complete sentences. Your responses will be graded based on completion: 4-6 sentences (per section) that completely answer the question(s). Whenever possible, refer to specific examples, assignments, and other tasks you completed as part of the course.

SLO 1: Personal Background & Experience

The first course objective for CWI 101 is to “examine personal background and experience and how they influence perceptions and impact relationships.” This skill is required in today’s interconnected world as it requires you to navigate the world with deliberate engagement and to be comfortable with multiple perspectives, cultures, and contexts.

Questions: How did your CWI 101 course help you make those connections between your personal background/experience and academia and/or your professional life? Use a minimum of 4-6 sentences to explain your reasoning; provide specific examples.

SLO 2: Information Literacy

The second course objective of CWI 101 is to “utilize information literacy to critically evaluate information within academic discourse.”

Questions: Thinking back over your first semester at CWI, how has your ability to critically evaluate information changed? What resources at CWI can help you to locate and use high-quality sources? Why is information literacy important? Use a minimum of 4-6 sentences to explain your reasoning; provide specific examples.

SLO 3: Strategies and Solutions

The third course objective of CWI 101 is to “apply appropriate strategies and solutions to becoming an effective student.” This outcome requires students to take ownership of their learning process as a personal pursuit that requires a level of self-guided navigation, perseverance, and resilience as obstacles and challenges present themselves.

Questions: What are some of the strategies you used to successfully complete your CWI 101 class and other classes this semester? What worked well for you? What are you going to do differently in future courses? Use a minimum of 4-6 sentences to explain your reasoning; provide specific examples.

STEP 2: Final Reflection. Finally, please reflect on your overall CWI 101 course experience.

Questions: What went well? What was your favorite part? Your favorite assignment? What could be improved upon? What was your least favorite part? Your least favorite assignment? If you could change one thing about CWI 101, what would it be?

STEP 3: Save your final reflection paper as a Word document using APA (or your major’s) formatting style.

STEP 4: Submit your final reflection paper as a file attachment to the Blackboard link in Module 16 (last week of the course).
